Public Health Medicine Specialist

I am a public health medicine specialist and medical officer of health. I am currently working in the areas of hazardous substances, border health, and arboviral disease. At National Public Health Service - Northern Region I have also worked in the areas of alcohol and tobacco enforcement, emergency management, rheumatic fever and several environmental health portfolios (air quality, climate change, contaminated land, early childcare centre licensing, burials and cremations, RMA, and housing).

After qualifying as a medical doctor in 1997, I worked in public hospitals in Auckland as a senior house surgeon in various medical and surgical specialties, and later as a medical registrar, before entering the public health training programme and obtaining a Master of Public Health in 2004.

I obtained my qualification as a public health medicine specialist in 2007 as both an Australasian Fellow of Public Health Medicine and a Fellow of New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine.
