National Public Health Service (NPHS) - Northern Region is New Zealand's largest public health service, working to promote and protect the health and wellbeing of all people in Tāmaki Makaurau (the Auckland region) and Te Tai Tokerau (Northland). Our main offices are in Greenlane and Whangārei.

Our functions include:

  • health promotion, working with whānau and communities
  • health protection
  • disease surveillance and health data analysis
  • compliance and licencing
  • managing communicable disease outbreaks
  • emergency response 

Our team includes medical officers of health; senior medical officers; health protection officers; public health nurses; health promoters; staff in systems, intelligence and planning roles; and staff in strategy and operations roles.
